FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can a friend or family member pick up my race packet?

If you are pre-registered, someone may pick up your race packet. That person will have to show their ID and sign for your packet. However, if you are registering for the race at packet pick-up, you must register in person. A friend or family member cannot register for you.

Is there packet pick-up or registration on race day?
Yes. Athletes may pick up their gift bags and entry packets, as well as register for the half marathon, at the DAYTONA 500 Club the morning of the race from 5:30-6:30.

May I wear my own ChampionChip during the race?
Yes. ChampionChip owners can use their own chip if they listed the number while registering. If you do not have your own chip, one will be provided to you. All chips will be passed out on race morning.

What is the minimum pace requirement?
Runners must maintain at least at 16-minute pace throughout the Daytona Beach Half Marathon, and must finish in 3 hours and 30 minutes.

Are we going to run on the beach?
No. Although a beach run was contemplated, race organizers have decided to keep the entire course on pavement. At mile 7.2, however, runners will reach the beach before turning around and heading back towards the finish line.

Is it a flat course?
For the most part, yes. The International Speedway Bridge at miles 6 and 8 is a gradual climb over the Halifax River. It is certainly not flat and will present a challenge. The rest of the course is flat. That includes the Speedway, which has a flat "apron" at the bottom of the banked turns.

Will the course be certified?
No, the Daytona Beach Half Marathon will not have a certified course.

Are headphones allowed during the race?
If you are going to wear headphones while running, please be safe, considerate of your fellow competitors and alert of cars and police/officials instructions. Because of safety precautions, no baby strollers/joggers, in-line skates, skateboards or dogs will be allowed during the Daytona Beach Half Marathon.

Will restrooms be positioned on the course?
Yes, temporary restrooms and medical areas will be located at four of the five water stops past the two-mile mark. A restroom will also be available at the beach turnaround. Finally, restrooms and medical areas will be placed at the run start and post-race party.

If I have registered for the race, but am not able to compete because of injury or scheduling problems, can I get a refund, carry my entry over to next year’s event or transfer my entry to someone else?
Unfortunately, there are no refunds, transfers or carry-overs for the Daytona Beach Half Marathon.

How can I make changes to my registration regarding contact information, chip number or shirt size?
Please email Jason Maderer at jmaderer@orlandosports.org. You may also call 407-648-4900 ext. 16 with any race questions.

What do I receive with my entry?
All entrants receive a finisher’s medal, tech event shirt, refreshments and food at the post-race party and one complimentary admission to the DAYTONA 500 Experience, the Official Attraction for NASCAR.

Do I have to use my DAYTONA 500 Experience admission ticket on race weekend?
No. The admission ticket you will receive in your gift bag is valid until December 24, 2008.

Are there any other events on race day?
There is not a 5K on October 26. However, a 5K is held annually at Daytona International Speedway each January. For more information, visit www.daytona5k.com.
