GENERAL INFO
The Inaugural Daytona Beach Half Marathon
will be held on Sunday morning, October 26, 2008. The course
features an out and back route, with the start and finish
lines located at historic Daytona International Speedway,
home of the largest and most prestigious NASCAR race in the
world, the DAYTONA 500.
This website includes all the details you
need to know as we begin a new racing tradition in Daytona
Beach.
DATE, LOCATION & TIME
The Daytona Beach Half Marathon is scheduled
for Sunday, October 26, 2008.
Run Start: 7:00 a.m. Awards: 10:00 a.m.
The start line will be located in the infield of Daytona International
Speedway.
The race will appropriately end at the Speedway’s finish
line.
The awards ceremony will be held in Gatorade Victory Lane
at the Speedway.
STAGING AND START CORRALS
There will be no starting corrals. Faster
runners are encouraged to line up as close to the start line
as possible.
POST-RACE PARTY
The Daytona Beach Half Marathon Post-Race
Party will be held in the Sprint FanZone at the Budweiser
Bistro located inside Daytona International Speedway. Athletes
will enjoy complimentary food such as fruit and bagels, while
checking out sponsor booths and cheering on their fellow finishers.
The highlight of the post-race party will be the MICHELOB
TASTE OF ULTRASAMPLING EXPERIENCE. The experience features
its own bar, and every Daytona Beach Half Marathon competitor
(21-years old and up) will receive a free Michelob Ultra Family
beer after the race. Athletes can sample the light, refreshing
tastes of the entire Ultra family, including Michelob Ultra,
Ultra Amber, Ultra Lime Cactus, Ultra Orange Grapefruit, or
Ultra Pomegranate Raspberry Pilsner-Style of beers.
Finishing 13.1 miles is a great accomplishment.

AGE GROUPS AND AWARDS
All finishers will receive a race medal at
the finish line. The Daytona Beach Half Marathon Awards Ceremony
will be held in Gatorade Victory Lane at 10:00 a.m. The top
three overall male and female finishers will receive awards,
and awards will be presented for the top three male and female
positions in each of the following age divisions:
19 and under
20-24
25-29
30-34
35-39
40-44
45-49
50-54
55-59
60-64
65-69
70+
Awards and results will be based on "Gun
Time" (order of finish). Chip time (net time) will be
recorded and provided for the benefit of the runners.
RACE DAY TIMING AND PICTURES
Timing and scoring will be kept by Alta Vista
Sports. Results will be posted on this website, as well at
www.altavistasports.com,
upon the conclusion of the event. At the race, results will
be posted and frequently updated in the Sprint Fan Zone as
runners finish.
Race day photos will be taken at various points
along the course, as well as at the finish line, by BB Action
Photography. Pictures can be seen and purchased at www.bbactionphoto.com approximately a week after the
Daytona Beach Half Marathon. Runners will also be contacted
via email when the pictures are ready to be viewed.
WEATHER
The average weather historically on October 26 in Daytona Beach is a high of 81 degrees and a low of 63. The race starts at 7 a.m., which should provide comfortable running conditions for an October morning in Central Florida. |
